Against my better judgment and that of others, I decided to embark on driving my Autozam AZ-1 home from Oregon to Buffalo. Any fellow Oppos along the way that might want to check it out? My general route is pictured below:
I’ll be taking the blue route home. I plan on stopping in Toledo for a bit to visit friends in that area, so a trip up into Michigan isn’t out of the question, weather permitting.
Let me know!

Why would you do something like that?

You should totally make a pit stop in Milwaukee and enjoy our beer, brats, and cheese curds (especially the cheese curds). It’s a little bit out of your way though.

I’m not on the way, but I approve!

I see you are bypassing the amazing roads and weed and beer of Colorado. Hmpf.

Well if you make a detour up to the Detroit area let me know, I’d love to see the car!

But Fez...
I’m trying to avoid snow if I can on my route. Plus I haven’t tried the herb and I don’t know if my first experience should be when I’m stuck in a car small enough for me to eat if I get the munchies.

I do love all of those things... and there is a more northern route
I’d probably hit snow in Montana though.

sure thing. I’ll make sure to save my kinja login on my phone so I can make a post.

Love this Gif! I’m adding it to the post!

Yea, the northern route is probably a bit riskier for serious snow falls

I am mailing a kit ahead of time with tire chains, a jump starter pack, a 12v air pump, and a tire plug kit. But I’m hoping I won’t need any of that stuff.

They make tire chains that small? lol
And that’s just good planning.

Unless you go down to New Mexico, you will most likely encounter snow. Even the mountains in New Mexico can get hammered. I’ve gone from Colorado to Washington in the winter, I’ve always taken I-70 over I-80. It adds a bit of time but chances of snow decrease the further south you go. I-70 does have the passes but there are only two major ones both with multiple options to go around if they close the pass. On the flip side, 11,000 ft and 660 cc doesn’t sound like a winning combination.
Good luck.

I can promise there are plenty of oppos here that love Autozams, also there are chili dogs and many pot holes. Good luck on your trip!

I had to get them off amazon, it looks like new old stock from the 90s!

Epic! If you make it to Michigan on a Saturday, we have a cool cars and coffee every weekend here: http://www.pasteiners.com/catalog/gallery&zenid=0dd6d19e336e47ce4ae7ba4b626d33e1
And if you’re passing through Salem, MO on 3/16-17, I’ll be down there racing at the 100 Acre Wood rally https://www.100aw.org/

Well if you want to grab a quick beer or see some of the good local driving roads, let me know!
We’ve got some mountain roads that would be a giggle fest in that little guy.

If you can detour a bit south into Denver (or even Ft. Collins!) I would absolutely love to check out your AZ-1 in person. I’m a huge Mazda nerd and I’ve loved these things for years.

Hmm, well I live almost 5 hours east of your destination so... keep going once you get there??

This is awesome and I 100% approve. I don’t live on your route, but I’m looking forward to plenty of updates.

If you make the more southern route I see I’d meet you near the USAF museum if I could.

When-about are you making this trip?

Another vote for the Detroit area! I’ve really wanted to import an AZ-1 for a while now, but have been hesitant to pull the trigger without seeing if I have even a remote chance of fitting in one.

Swing by Australia and I’ll be there with bells on

Definitely on the bucket list. Maybe the AZ1 could be my carry on.

Very early March

I plan on taking a lot of pictures and doing a pretty decent post about it.

Boston area?

I really wish I could drive that fast to make cars and coffee, but I will likely be coming through on a Tuesday.
![]() 02/13/2018 at 07:58 |

Sure thing, I will be flying in on a Thursday and probably leaving Friday to head back east.

Damn no CA?! But I want to AUTOZAM!

Ft. Collins isn’t too far out of the way. It would probably be Sunday or Monday the 3rd or 4th of March.
![]() 02/13/2018 at 12:59 |

That’d be rad. I work 8-5 Mondays, but I’ll be there otherwise! Just let me know as you get a better idea of when you’ll be here. Best of luck on your trip!

Cool, best of luck and have fun! If it were mid-May I’d say we should meet up somewhere along the way, since I’m flying out to CA to buy a car around then.
By the time you get to the Cleveland area you may just want to go home, but if not let me know - I still have a header for you (if it’ll fit anywhere in the AZ-1!)
![]() 02/14/2018 at 08:37 |

Sure thing man! I’m doing it as a vacation so I may want to take my time. Maybe meet up at sonic or something.

No, Saratoga Springs NY area. An hour or so north of Albany
![]() 02/14/2018 at 11:01 |

I’m familiar with that area. I’ll be passing through there a couple times this year for obstacle course races.

Neat, the AZ-1 seems like a really cool car and I’d love to get to see one in person if you’re ever in the area!
